The playful side
of design

Telmodice is a well-established design and visual culture festival in the coastal city of Málaga, southern Spain, nationally recognised for bringing together leading figures such as David Carson and Ellen Lupton, alongside a wide programme of workshops, talks and creative activities.

Process:

An overview of the entire visual identity creation process for the festival and how it was carried out.

Challenge

After years of growth, an increasing number of attendees were design professionals with years of experience, and Telmodice had lost part of its focus on students and young creatives. In 2023, the goal was to revive that educational spirit and attract the original audience once again.

From the outset, a different and participatory approach was adopted. The campaign began with a teaser phase based on interactive posters in the form of surveys, inviting the public to vote and take part.

Strategy

Renewed identity: established a fresh, playful, and experimental visual language, successfully reconnecting with the festival’s young audience.
Record attendance: drew more visitors than ever, with a significant increase in students and young creatives, achieving the goal of reclaiming the festival’s educational focus.
Social media engagement: interactive teaser posters and campaigns generated high online interaction, boosting visibility and reinforcing the perception of a fun, approachable, and participatory festival.

Results

I participated in the conceptualization and visual development of the festival, proposing the concept and slogan “Playing is Creating,” which guided the entire edition.
